TLT is looking for an experienced Contract Senior Associate to join our Public Inquiries, Inquests & Public Law team in London on an initial 6-month contract.

This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified Solicitor or Barrister with strong litigation experience and a background in misconduct or regulatory work. You will work on a varied caseload of police misconduct and professional standards matters, providing strategic advice to clients and supporting cases through to misconduct hearings.

Working closely with our Public Inquiries team, you will have the opportunity to take ownership of complex matters while also supporting and developing other members of the team.

The role will be paid on a day-rate basis via an umbrella company, with office attendance required in London.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage and advise on a caseload of police misconduct and professional standards matters.
  • Draft allegations, including Regulation 30 notices, and responses under Regulation 31.
  • Advise on evidential strategy, disclosure, redactions and preparation for misconduct hearings.
  • Prepare clear and strategic misconduct advice for senior clients.
  • Attend misconduct hearings and undertake advocacy where appropriate.
  • Supervise and support colleagues in the management of their own case files.
  • Provide advice to officers and staff on a range of legal, misconduct and regulatory matters.
  • Contribute to the training and development of colleagues across police misconduct and regulatory work.

About you

You will ideally have:

  • Qualification as a Solicitor or Barrister with rights of audience in England and Wales.
  • 5+ years' litigation experience, ideally involving complex or large-scale matters.
  • Strong experience in misconduct and regulatory work.
  • Excellent drafting, communication and advisory skills.
  • Confidence managing competing priorities and responding effectively to fast-moving matters.
  • Knowledge of the Police Conduct Regulations, although this is desirable rather than essential.
  • Experience advising on police misconduct and/or performance matters, including Unsatisfactory Performance Proceedings (UPP), would be advantageous.
