We are recruiting for a Paralegal to join our Real Estate – Core Property Scotland team in Glasgow or Edinburgh.

 

Your Role

As a Paralegal working in Core Property Scotland, you will:

  • Work with Partners and other fee earners in a wide variety of general commercial property work, with a particular focus on landlord and tenant work in the retail and leisure sectors.
  • Work autonomously on your own files having direct responsibility and accountability to clients for timely delivery and meeting client expectations.
  • Be involved in all aspects of commercial conveyancing, refinancing, leasing and portfolio management work. This will include real estate due diligence, drafting, negotiation and handling matters to completion.
  • Draft, review and negotiate Offers, Dispositions, Standard Securities, Leases, Minutes of Variation, Rent Reviews, Licence for Works, Assignations, Sub-Leases, Reports on Title and Reports on Transactional Documents and such other conveyancing documentation as may be required from time to time.
  • Deal with and monitor post completion formalities ensuring that these are dealt with as appropriate. This will include preparation, supervision and filing of LBTT returns (including 3 yearly LBTT returns) and liaising closely with Registers of Scotland where appropriate.
  • Assist with the planning and coordination of the delivery of work streams associated with large projects which are being undertaken. This may, for example, include working with others in relation to assignation of loan books and dealing with large volumes of title reviews and transfers and taking responsibility for the quality and output of the work you produce.

You will also be responsible for:

  • Maintaining up to date reports for clients so that they can track each of their various matters with us. Some clients require this in real time and others require that reports are circulated periodically.
  • Ensuring that you and others in the team comply with various KPIs required by our clients. This will include, for example, ensuring that notifications are sent out of key stages of transactions to relevant client contacts in the form that they require.
  • Providing real estate support in relation to other aspects of work undertaken by colleagues in the team and wider Firm. This may involve supervision of more junior members of staff (Paralegals and Trainees) and assisting them with queries and drafting.
  • Providing all our clients with a quality service in accordance with TLT’s procedures.
  • Working with colleagues across our offices to assist in the delivery of cross jurisdictional projects across a range of different industry sectors.
  • Continually seeking to develop and expand your skill set taking on increasingly more complex work.
  • Where appropriate, attending training events which may be internal or provided by external providers. Help prepare and deliver training to the wider Scottish real estate team to share the knowledge gained from such training events.
  • Assisting in the development of legal precedents.
  • Assist with the drafting and production of articles and client updates on current legal issues for publication on TLT’s website, newspapers and other publications.
  • Maintain and improve relations with existing clients and spot opportunities for business development and enhancement of the current services we offer.
  • Be actively involved in team business development initiatives and carry out your own business development activities.
  • Continue to win further work from our existing clients, including by cross selling TLT’s other services, and help to strengthen relationships with key individuals at key and strategic clients.
