Our Researchers work closely with colleagues across all parts of our business, helping to turn data and information into insight to support our clients.   

The Research Team, with the firm’s Knowledge Lawyers, deliver both legal and business research to support client activity, business development and sector and strategic research. The Research Team also help manage TLT’s extensive programme of current awareness and horizon scanning, as well as a wide variety of digital resources. 

This is a permanent full-time role attached to a TLT Office in the Research Team, which sits within the Managed Legal Services group. We are open to Bristol and Manchester locations.

 

Your Role  

Working as part of the Research Team, reporting to the Head of Research: 

  • As an experienced and expert business intelligence researcher, you will lead on the delivery of complex research including scoping, assigning, agreeing deliverables and managing stakeholder expectations.
  • You will undertake a full range of business research to help our lawyers and colleagues across the business better understand our clients and the sectors and markets they operate in. Working with Researcher colleagues this may include producing sector and market research, company profiles, and competitive intelligence research.
  • You will liaise with and support our Marketing & Business Development colleagues and Knowledge Lawyers in their research and information needs.
  • You will provide research support to the Head of Research to assist with business development activities and firm strategic projects as required. You will help develop regular business research insights and analysis to support decision making and commercial opportunities. 
  • You will provide research support to the Research Manager (Legal) to assist with current awareness and horizon scanning when required.
  • As a Senior Researcher you will value research quality and review and quality check Researcher outputs effectively and provide thoughtful and actionable feedback.
  • You are competent to step up and lead in the absence of a Research Manager.
  • You proactively seek opportunities for service, process and template improvements within the team.
  • You are a confident communicator at all levels and are able to lead key stakeholder meetings and presentations.
  • You are a confident trainer in both research skills and research tools, to empower our end-users and ensure effective return on investment in firm resources.
  • You mentor and train Researchers and foster a collaborative working environment.
  • You role model TLT values and research best practices within the team.
  • Be a champion for Research, our projects and products and maintain and update knowledge resources.  
  • Any other task as directed by Research Management team and/or MLS Management.

 

Professional Skills & Experience

  • A degree or equivalent professional experience in Business, Research, Information/Knowledge Management, Librarianship, or a relevant discipline.
  • Highly experienced in business research in a professional services environment.
  • Experienced in running successful research projects end to end.
  • Ability to develop a good understanding of the work of TLT’s sectors and groups to appreciate internal clients' information needs, to identify relevant knowledge and effectively draft/edit summaries and disseminate such content. A can-do mentality and practical approach to problem solving.
  • Strong time management, planning, and organisational skills with attention to detail.
  • Committed to high-quality customer service with excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Enthusiastic about new technologies and ways of working, has a wide range of experience in using research databases and tools.
  • Produces high quality written outputs, identifying salient points, summarising and drafting effectively.
  • Excellent written and technical skills to deliver results in relevant formats including data driven, written reports, slide-deck presentations, visualisations.  Experience with contributing to professional reports / written material desirable
  • Ability to work flexibly both as a collaborative team member and independently, maintaining a positive, solutions-focused attitude.
  • Ability to build a credible reputation as a trusted adviser on business research matters, both within the immediate team and amongst internal clients.
