We are recruiting for a number of Senior Paralegals to join our Public Inquiries team in London. Working on a high profile secure public inquiry you will be required to work in a secure environment in central London, 5 days a week on a full-time permanent basis.

 

Your Role

  • Using e-disclosure platforms and specific systems (full training provided) to implement redaction policies and decisions, to provide disclosure to relevant stakeholders
  • Reviewing and organising data relevant to the Inquiry and presenting in a preferred format to assist the investigation
  • Taking detailed instructions from fee earners within the team and providing regular updates on progress.
  • Instructing Counsel on key matters related to the Inquiry.
  • Assistance on all elements of evidence gathering, collation and publication. This includes work on e-disclosure platforms to undertake document review, tagging and creation of e-bundles for the purposes of obtaining evidence from witnesses.
  • Work in relation to Restriction Orders. Involving liaising closely with counsel and solicitors in relation to applications to restrict evidence, applying redactions and undertaking all necessary tasks required.
  • Work on hearings. Including making arrangements with the Court, liaising with core participants, creating bundles, attending hearings and undertaking any follow-up work.
  • Liaising with core participants and other stakeholders on a wide range of issues, under appropriate supervision and direction.
  • Working within a multi-disciplinary and fast-paced team to meet delivery milestones

 

Your Skills and Experience

  • 12 months Legal Assistant / Paralegal experience 
  • A willingness to be SC Clearance –arranged upon employment offer. You must be a UK resident having lived UK uninterrupted for the past 5 years to be able to apply.
  • Public Inquiries case handling experience would be desirable but not essential.
  • Accuracy, good organisational skills and flexibility
  • Good knowledge of Word and Outlook is required and experience in Excel, PowerPoint, and Relativity (or other e-disclosure) experience.
  • A proven ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, work under pressure and prioritise work from various stakeholder
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
  • A strong team-player. Able to work with colleagues from a wide range of backgrounds to achieve a shared goal. Willing to take direction but also to use own initiative to develop effective ways of working.

 

Your Team

The Public Inquiries team at TLT has a wide breadth of experience on all aspects of inquiry, inquest and national security work. We represent central government, non-departmental public bodies, local government, high-profile individuals, blue light services and the private sector.

The team provide a full legal service. This includes advising individual key witnesses representing public bodies, private individuals and acting on behalf of inquiries themselves. This breadth of experience and knowledge allows the team to deal with all aspects of public inquiries and provides a unique perspective. On top of our legal advice, we are able to provide support to any inquiry secretariat. We can provide project management, budget advice and administrative support.
