We are looking for a Legal Technologist to join our award-winning FutureLaw team to help us develop and implement new solutions for our legal and other services. You will be responsible for identifying opportunities to use intelligent technology, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, and configuring and implementing new solutions.   

Role Responsibility 

You can expect to: 

Identify new opportunities for innovation 

  • Work with the rest of the FutureLaw team to inquire, experiment, deliver, promote and champion transformation within the firm and with our clients; 
  • Anticipate the needs of our clients and originate new ideas for the use of legal technology; and 
  • Use design thinking or similar innovation techniques to identify client and legal team requirements, needs and pain points.  

Design new intelligent technology solutions 

  • Understand our existing legal technology products and capabilities, how they each meet client requirements and how they can be used, particularly for multi-point solutions or with other point solutions;  
  • Evaluate the benefits of legal technology opportunities and assist in the development of ROI assessments based on a good understanding of commercial terms and requirements; 
  • Work with internal and external clients to scope, map and design appropriate solutions, to include the integration and implementation of legal technology; and 
  • Design, configure, price and/or develop prototypes, run proof of concepts and undertake final builds of new FutureLaw legal technology, services and solutions (with support from the wider FutureLaw team as required). 

Configure, deploy and maintain our existing solutions 

  • Manage the configuration and further customisation of new and existing solutions, to include maintaining existing solutions to ensure they continue to provide value to stakeholders;  
  • Provide advice and guidance on appropriate technology to help improve processes, identify and capture data and to improve client experience; 
  • Assist in the implementation and embedding of new and existing legal technologies within FutureLaw, the wider firm and its clients; and 
  • Assist in the management of day-to-day relationships with legal technology vendors, to include liaising with vendors on demos, design and implementation of trials, pilots, proofs of concept and final roll out, including engaging with Procurement, IT and InfoSec functions. 

Work with our lawyers and our clients to embed and increase adoption 

  • Promote the benefits of legal technology to colleagues across the firm and its clients, building strong relationships with key stakeholders and teams; 
  • Train users and provide presentations and demos of FutureLaw legal technology products and be a super user and trainer for the FutureLaw legal technology tools; 
  • Undertake stakeholder and client management and engagement with a view to developing and cultivating relationships with stakeholders and internal and external clients; 
  • Assisting partners and other colleagues in bids for and delivery of work where legal technology is required for successful legal service delivery; and 
  • Be an advocate for TLT FutureLaw inside and outside the firm.

Skills and approach

  • Passionate role model for technology and its application to the legal sector and legal issues; 

Technical skills 

  • Broad understanding of solution architecture and its application to the legal sector;  
  • Understanding of LegalTech and the digital technology market to include the latest developments in: 
    • Artificial Intelligence tools, including extraction tools and generative AI;  
    • Low code technology or technology to create client portals and bespoke solutions;  
    • Working with structured and unstructured data; 
    • EDiscovery, Contract Review and Contract Lifecycle Management tools; 
    • Document automation and workflow automation; 
    • Decision tree-based technology; and 
    • Other common technologies used for legal use cases (e.g. data rooms, eSignature etc). 
  • Experience or knowledge of the following technologies (or similar) is advantageous: 
    • Excel; 
    • Miro (desirable); 
    • Kira (desirable); 
    • LegalSifter (desirable); 
    • Relativity (desirable); 
    • DocuSign; 
    • Contract Express; and  
    • HighQ; 
  • Understand how to repurpose technology to solve new pain points, with a particular focus on adapting solutions within the Microsoft or Thomson Reuters technology stacks. 

Delivery and working with stakeholders 

  • Experience in design thinking or similar innovation techniques and methodology; 
  • Basic project management skills, including an understanding of how to interpret the client's business needs and translate them into business/operational requirements; 
  • Ability to support on delivering and embedding legal and other technology into a firm, with particular focus on change management methodologies 

Soft skills 

  • Excellent communication skills and an ability to engage and work collaboratively with stakeholders throughout the business at all levels and across fee earning teams and business services, with the ability to be flexible in approach as required 
  • Keen team player with the ability to self-start and engage with a varied cross section of fee earners across the business. 
  • A client focused approach to the delivery of legal technology and project planning 
  • Comfortable working in an environment of uncertainty and constant change; 
  • Tenacious, driven individual who can be flexible as the needs of the role and/or audience change and is skilled at working collaboratively and with a keen attention to detail.
