Managing Associate/Legal Director - Competition

We are seeking to recruit a Managing Associate or Legal Director for our award-winning Competition team, which forms an integral part of our broader Commercial Services Group. Depending on your previous experience and interests, you will also support with wider regulatory, dispute resolution, or commercial matters, requiring competition law expertise, as part of a varied multi-disciplinary practice.

This is a full time, permanent role, ideally based in Bristol or London, offered on a hybrid working basis.

Your Role 

As a Managing Associate or Legal Director in our Competition team, you can expect to be involved in and lead (with supervision) on:

• competition litigation and appeal work;
• advising clients on a wide range of antitrust matters, from merger control work to (market and targeted) investigations as well as behavioural advice, compliance training and associated support;
• undertaking National Security and Investment Act analyses and notifications;
• advising on subsidy control and associated policy;
• providing insightful commercial/regulatory advice in a practice tailored to your existing experience and with opportunities to further develop;
• seeking and building new work opportunities and reinforcing existing client relationships through a strong commitment to targeted marketing, business development and client care initiatives;
• knowledge-sharing and working as part of a cross-office collegiate team, including assisting with the supervision of more junior lawyers; significant tasks and projects and have the opportuning to lead and manage others in the team, whether directly or on a matrix basis and
• be an active, senior member of the team at TLT, with the commitment to developing the firm’s offering locally and nationally.

Your Skills and Experience 

• A Qualified Solicitor (SRA or Registered Foreign Lawyer or equivalent) with circa 6-12PQE (albeit applications that exceed this PQE bracket are welcome)
• Good level of experience across competition litigation and subsidy control.
• Ideally the successful candidate will also have experience across two or more areas of the antitrust spectrum covering; merger control, competition investigations, compliance programs, behavioural advice, National Security and Investment Act analyses and notifications, compliance programmes and training.
• Broader commercial and/or regulatory experience (including for example consumer protection investigations), or a willingness to multi-skill, would be valuable, as would experience of working for clients in the retail & consumer goods, financial services, digital, future energy, leisure, real estate, and government sectors. 
• Have a proven track record in business development: creating, nurturing, and sustaining strong client relationships
• Experience of supervising and/or managing a small team (including matrix management).
• Demonstrate first class communication skills with the ability and confidence to engage with clients and colleagues at all levels.
• Ability to confidently provide strategic advice to a variety of TLT clients.
