We are recruiting for an Associate or Senior Associate to join our Commercial team in Manchester, Bristol or Birmingham. This role will form a crucial part of our team, supporting clients principally across the Financial Services, Retail, Leisure and Digital sectors and more widely on occasion, supporting a range of projects and advice relating to supply, procurement, outsourcing, partnership, licensing, distribution and collaboration arrangements.

In return we will invest in you. We want you to be successful. You will support complex projects (under appropriate supervision) ensuring your experience is varied and broad. Through our national service lines, you will work with notable clients and industry experts. You will receive bespoke training, ensuring you have the technical, commercial and management skills to develop your career.

Your Role

  • Working as part of a wider technology and commercial team on high value, strategic projects and contractual arrangements.
  • Providing non-contentious advice on a wide range of commercial projects, including framework agreements, supply agreements, payments, digital transformation projects, outsourcing and collaborations.
  • Taking an active role in business development, including preparing pitches and tenders, providing training, and building client relationships.
  • Working on site with clients where required, including the option for virtual and in-person secondments.
  • Supervising, managing and mentoring more junior members of the team.

Your Skills and Experience

Our employees are talented people, distinguished by technical excellence, with a willingness to embrace team working and a passion for client service. You must be able to demonstrate a similar supportive, flexible, and driven ethos and have accumulated the following experience and skills:

  • A Qualified Solicitor (SRA or Law Society Registered), with a minimum of 1-year post-qualification experience, gained within the Commercial or Technology team at a highly regarded law firm, or relevant in-house legal team.
  • Experience of advising on commercial transactions for clients in one of key sectors, namely the financial services or retail or digital sector.
  • A keen appetite to reinforce our practice with FS sector clients, particularly those operating within the payments industry.
  • A motivated self-starter with ambitions to support more complex, strategic client work (with Partner oversight and support as required).
  • Strong technical ability, particularly with negotiating, drafting and advising on contractual arrangements.
  • Client-focussed approach with the ability to nurture long standing relationships.
  • Have the drive and ambition to succeed at TLT, with the commitment to developing the firm’s strategic commercial offering locally and nationally.

Although not essential, the following payments experience would also be beneficial:

  • Experience supporting merchant acquiring, card issuing, and payment-gateway related matters.
  • Experience working with projects involving non-card scheme related payments, including Open Banking, faster payments, etc.

We are very open to hearing from applicants with a broader commercial background, so if you do not have the above payments related experience, which we have noted as being beneficial for the role, we would still love to hear from you.
