We are recruiting for a Knowledge Lawyer to join our Projects, Infrastructure & Construction team.

The team operate on a national basis, so although this role will be affiliated with our Bristol, Manchester or Glasgow office, this flexible opportunity can be performed nationwide. We are open to part time and full-time applicants.

This position would best suit a qualified lawyer with a minimum of 6 years' PQE in construction law, who is looking for greater flexibility in their role, and is ambitious to develop their career as a Knowledge Lawyer.

Your Role

You will form a crucial part of our Projects Infrastructure and Construction team, as you will support multiple fee earners across the national team, ensuring that they are able to operate at optimum efficiency for TLT’s clients.

You will provide Knowledge expertise across a broad range of construction law matters, as our Projects, Infrastructure and Construction team services clients with Infrastructure, Future Energy, Real Estate Development, Public Procurement and Contentious Construction matters.

You will be given a large amount of autonomy in this role, but the day to day tasks outlined below give an indication of some of the tasks that you may be expected to carry out as a Knowledge Lawyer.

  • Creating and maintaining precedents, as well as directing fee earners to external resources, which you will collate and annotate.
  • Creating and delivering internal training to our fee earners. This may include trainee programmes, training for junior lawyers, as well as regular practice area and market updates.
  • Creating and, where appropriate, delivering training to clients.
  • Keeping up to date with legal developments and notifying fee earners of the impact of these on their practice, as well as ensuring that any impacts are dealt with in precedents, and practice notes.
  • Dealing with complex legal queries from fee earners.
  • Ensuring that all relevant materials created by you and the fee earners are captured, up to date, monitored and included in TLT’s internal knowledge database and promoting the use of this with fee earners.
  • Working with relevant business services teams across the firm to ensure that your group/team resources are easily accessible on Atlas.
  • Identifying potential risks and working with the Risk team to minimise these.
  • Identifying opportunities for efficiencies, either through process optimisation, legal project management or technology, and working with FutureLaw and MLS to trial, promote adoption and implement these.
  • Writing or contributing to legal insights for Atlas or our website, as well as articles for external publications.
  • Where required, drafting responses to specific questions or parts of tenders.
  • Along with other KLs, working with relevant teams across the firm in relation to the design and functionality of our internal knowledge database
  • Liaising closely with our wider team of Knowledge Lawyers who service other groups across the firm.
  • Where appropriate, mentoring and/or otherwise supporting the trainees in the team with developing their knowledge application and research skills

 

Your Skills and Experience

You must be/have:

  • A Qualified Solicitor (SRA or Law Society Registered), with at least 6 PQE in construction law. Prior Knowledge Lawyer/Professional Support Lawyer experience within construction law would be advantageous, however this is not essential.
  • Strong legal drafting skills and attention to detail
  • Able to work effectively independently and to work well as part of a team.
  • Able to digest, analyse and succinctly communicate large amounts of legal and industry information to both internal and external clients
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work effectively independently
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including strong presentation skills
  • An awareness and familiarity with different tools available to support delivery of projects and matters.

 

Your Team

Our Projects, Infrastructure & Construction team have extensive experience in development and transactional construction projects, as well as expertise in dispute management and resolution. We have a significant record of advising UK infrastructure projects, in particular in the clean energy and transport sectors including on high value complex disputes.

We work with corporate clients of all sizes - global manufacturers and retailers, major national and regional builders, and commercial land developers are regular clients.  We also work with registered housing associations and public bodies including local authorities, police forces and other governmental departments and agencies.
