We are recruiting for a Knowledge and Research Officer to join the Knowledge Management team in our Managed Legal Services group, based in our Bristol or Manchester offices. 

This is a permanent full-time role attached to a TLT Office in the KM Research Team, which sits within the MLS group.

Our Knowledge and Research Officers work closely with colleagues across all parts of our business, helping to turn data and information into insight to support our clients. 

The KM Research team, with the firms Knowledge Lawyers deliver both legal and business research to support client activity, bids & tenders as well as sector and strategic research. 

The KM Research Team also help manage TLT’s extensive programme of current awareness and horizon scanning, as well as a wide variety of digital resources including the firm’s internal knowhow and third-party databases.

 

Your Role

Working as part of the KM Research Team, reporting to the Knowledge & Research Manager (Legal) you will be responsible for:

  • Undertaking a full range of legal research to provide daily support to assist our lawyers with providing timely advice to clients.
  • Providing research support to the Knowledge & Research Manager (Business Intelligence) to assist with business development activities when required.
  • Liaising with and supporting our Knowledge Lawyers in their research and information needs.
  • Providing support to KM Management to deliver team and firmwide projects and priorities for the benefit of all TLT staff and clients.
  • Providing a proactive current awareness and horizon scanning service, using technology to monitor news and client developments, tracking cases, legislation and policy.
  • Empowering end users to engage with and maximise usage of our legal research resources (digital & print) effectively through trialling, promotion and training.
  • Supporting and advising on knowledge sharing behaviours amongst the wider legal staff, including contributing to the capture of firm Knowhow.
  • Building a strong network with staff at all levels across the organisation as a trusted adviser for knowledge and research related activities.
  • Be a champion for Knowledge Management, our projects and products and maintain and update knowledge resources.
  • Assist with recruitment and induction process for new Knowledge Management staff when requested.
  • Some inter-office travel may be required.
  • Any other task as directed by KM and/or MLS Management.

Enquiries management

  • Work with KRO colleagues to maintain a firmwide Research Service by responding to research requests across TLT using the firmwide workflow software, TopDesk.
  • Escalate complex requests, collaborate, and communicate workload with KM Management.

Team support

  • Work together with other members of the team to support firm knowledge projects.
  • Proactively share skills, peer-review and provide feedback with colleagues.
  • Demonstrate and roll model the TLT Values.

 

Your Skills and Experience

  • A degree or equivalent professional experience in Business, Research, Information / Knowledge Management, Librarianship (or relevant discipline); 
  • A lively, energetic personality with a practical can-do mentality and practical approach to problem solving.
  • Understands research and has relevant experience of knowledge, information and research in a professional services environment;
  • Highly experienced and confident in undertaking online research using a wide variety of legal and business databases.  
  • Energetic and enthusiastic about new technologies and ways of working.
  • Ability to develop a good understanding of the work of TLT’s sectors and groups to appreciate internal clients' information needs, to identify relevant knowledge and effectively draft/edit summaries and disseminate such content;
  • Ability to build a credible reputation as a trusted advisor on information-related matters, both within the immediate team and amongst internal clients;
  • Ability to manage demanding workloads with strict deadlines;
  • Exceptional time management, planning and organisational skills, a methodical approach and attention to detail;
  • Committed to high quality customer service.
  • Strong inter-personal communication skills with the ability to effectively scope research requests from clients, negotiate deadlines, and present research results at all levels of the organisation.
  • Excellent written and technical skills to deliver results in relevant formats including data driven, written reports, slide-deck presentations, visualisations.  Experience with contributing to professional reports / written material desirable.
  • Analytical ability, in particular an ability to summarise and analyse large amounts of information and draw out salient points.  Experience with   
  • Ability to work flexibly as a collaborative and supportive team member and able to work independently using own initiative when required, maintaining a positive, solutions focussed attitude.

 

Your Team

The Knowledge Management function at TLT includes Researchers, Systems Managers, Knowledge Lawyers and Document Production teams. We focus on undertaking both business and legal research, help manage TLT’s extensive programme of current awareness and horizon scanning, as well as a wide variety of third party databases, knowledge systems and automation tools. Working alongside Knowledge lawyers we support colleagues across all parts of the business helping to turn data and information into insight to support our clients.
