This is an opportunity for a Contract Paralegal to provide support on high profile Voicemail Interception (more commonly known as "phone hacking"), e-mail interception and computer hacking claims against certain tabloid newspapers.

This role is key to incepting new clients, investigating new claims and pre-action work. The successful candidate will ideally demonstrate a working knowledge of the CPR, experience of working with volume data/disclosure (including e-disclosure and key-word searches) and will possess an understanding of case/trial preparation for contentious matters. You will have responsibility for handling your own caseload (with supervision) and will be a trusted and vital member of the team.

Please note that this role will be on an initial 6 month contract and will require you to work via an umbrella company, on a day rate basis. The role is based in person, in our Birmingham office. There may be an opportunity for some remote working, but this is not guaranteed and is dependant on the needs of the team. We are working on a quick turnaround so we need you to be immediately available or very short notice period, you will not be considered if you have a long notice period to serve.

Role Responsibility

As a Paralegal, you will provide support to the team on day-to-day case work, including the following tasks:

  • Using specific systems (full training provided) to investigate claims.
  • Undertaking large scale document reviews and identifying key evidence.
  • Use of Excel to document results.
  • Creating bundles and document lists.
  • Attending meetings with clients and counsel as a note taker.
  • Other research tasks.
  • Taking detailed instructions from fee earners within the team and providing regular updates on progress.

The Ideal Candidate

  • You will be a graduate with the LPC or studying towards your CILEx qualification.
  • Ideally you will have gained at least 12 months recent commercial experience within Commercial Litigation or another commercial practice area and have experience of handling your own case load.
  • Exposure to working on serious and complex matters is desirable.
  • Ability to demonstrate a methodical and focused approach with a keen, analytical eye for detail.
  • Flexibility to work between our Birmingham and London offices, when needed, as well as attend Court and conferences with counsel in London.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills - correctly prioritising work and being aware of deadlines.
  • Experienced in reviewing documents and accurately summarising the salient points.
  • Ability to work under pressure, taking instruction easily to meet strict deadlines.
  • Self-confident and ability to demonstrate initiative while working alone and as part of a team.
  • Display an enthusiastic, proactive and can-do attitude.
  • Must be confident in using Microsoft Windows, Word and Excel.
