Our Projects, Infrastructure and Construction (PIC) team are looking to expand in line with client demand in the future energy sector. We have an opening available for a non-contentions Construction Associate, with a specialism in future energy, to join our PIC team in either London, Bristol or Glasgow. This role is a full-time permanent opportunity, offering a hybrid working pattern although we would be open to discussing a 4 days per week proposition.

This position would best suit a qualified Construction/Projects Solicitor between 1-3 year's PQE, with a broad background in renewables, who is looking for an exceptional quality of work, team collaboration and opportunities for progression. We will consider applicants outside of this PQE bracket, if you have relevant experience working with future energy clients.


Your Role

TLT’s Projects, Infrastructure & Construction (PIC) team is a national team, comprising of six partners with expertise across a range of sectors including real estate, public sector and energy.

We are seeking a non-contentious lawyer to join PIC, to work as part of TLT’s Future Energy team.  The Clean Energy Team is highly regarded in the sector and TLT has been ranked second in Clean Energy Pipeline’s 2023 Clean Energy Legal League Table, recognising the firm’s position as one of the most active clean energy advisers in the UK. 

In financial year 2023-24, the PIC team advised on the following projects: 46 solar; 4 hybrid solar and battery; 25 battery; 16 grid, 9 on-shore wind; 3 off-shore wind; 3 heat networks; 3 anaerobic digestion; 2 EV charging; 2 district lighting; 1 hydro power; 1 CO2 recovery and 1 hydroponics.

We increasingly operate as a disruptor to other firms in the sector and advise developers, investors and lenders in relation to wind, offshore wind and solar generation as well as adjacent technologies like AD, energy storage, EVCI and heat networks.

The Future Energy team has also been growing, with recent hires from Osborne Clarke, EY, CMS, Eversheds Sutherland, Orrick, Addleshaw Goddard, Pinsent Masons, Shepherd and Wedderburn, and Squire Patton Boggs - we now have over 100 lawyers now dedicated to the renewables sector.

As part of the team, you will:

  • Work on clean energy construction transactions and projects for a variety of clients in the Future Energy sector, in particular developers, generators and investors in and lenders to those projects.
  • Prepare and negotiate construction, O&M, supply and related documentation for wind, solar, battery, EV and other clean energy projects. You may also assist with grid and regulatory aspects.
  • You will be encouraged to be client-facing and take the lead your own projects, although support will always be available as needed.
  • Liaise with our close colleagues handling real estate, corporate and banking elements of these projects.
  • Supporting in the continued development and growth of the Future Energy sector at TLT, by participating in business development activities.


Your Skills and Experience

You will be:

  • A Qualified Solicitor (SRA or Law Society Registered) 1-3PQE, with experience advising future energy/renewables clients on construction projects. We will consider applicants outside of this PQE bracket, if you have relevant experience working with future energy clients.
  • Able to handle clean energy projects including experience of the associated documentation, including contracts based on templates like FIDIC and NEC but also bespoke contracts. 
    • Wider construction experience (built environment and infrastructure) may be useful but not essential.
    • Wider experience of energy project documents (grid, offtake etc.) is desirable (but not essential).
  • A forward thinker, with excellent analytical, communication and organisational skills, you will be self-motivated with the ability to manage workloads and deadlines
  • Commercially aware with enthusiasm for business development, and an appetite for keeping up-to-date with the latest developments in your practice area and sector focus
  • Able to understand your client’s business needs, and act in the best interest of the firm and the client
  • Ambitious and enthusiastic but most of all a team player who will contribute to our collaborative culture.

Our Projects, Infrastructure & Construction team have extensive experience in development and transactional construction projects, as well as expertise in dispute management and resolution. We have a significant record of advising UK infrastructure projects, in particular in the clean energy and transport sectors including on high value complex disputes.

Operating from offices across the UK, our expanding and ambitious team provide tactical, commercially minded services across all aspects of the Future Energy sector, with over 100 lawyers dedicated to the sector. We act for a broad range of clients in the sector, including developers, institutional investors, banks, non-bank lenders and the public sector, covering both established technologies such as solar, wind and hydro to newer technologies such as battery storage, heat pumps, electric vehicles, hydrogen and CCUS.
