We are recruiting for a Senior Associate, to join our Trusts and Estates team in Bristol.

Your Role 

The successful candidate in this role, will report into Debbie Gale, who heads up the Trusts and Estates team.  

If you are successful, you will carry out a wide range of private client work with particular emphasis on: 

  • Trust drafting, set up and management for high and ultra-high net worth clients, including charitable trusts, family investment companies  
  • Estate and succession planning advice for high and ultra-high net worth families and business owners including cross border issues 
  • Delivering a bespoke will writing service to individual high-net worth clients 
  • Advising on and preparing Lasting Powers of Attorney 
  • Providing personal tax advice to high-net-worth clients, including preparing inheritance tax returns  
  • Developing your knowledge of a broad range of sophisticated estate, tax and trust law advisory work undertaken by the team for an enviable client base (working alongside senior lawyers in the team and collaborating with colleagues in other teams such as banking, corporate and family) 

As a Senior Associate in the team, you will also support with the following: 

  • Exploiting opportunities with clients and referrers nationally and internationally  
  • Maintaining and strengthening the technical tax and trust capability of our team  
  • Supervising and developing junior members of the team  

Your Skills and Experience 

You will be: 

  • A Qualified Solicitor (SRA or Law Society Registered) or Chartered Legal Executive, with the ability to work independently with limited supervision. You will have extensive experience in all areas of private client including complex will drafting, personal tax advice, trust drafting and preparation of lasting powers of attorney. 
  • A forward thinker, with excellent analytical, communication and organisational skills, you will be self-motivated with the ability to manage workloads and deadlines  
  • Commercially aware with some exposure to business development, with the ability to maintain and nurture strong client relationships  
  • Able to develop a deep understanding of your client’s business needs, and act in the best interest of the firm and the client   
  • Able to contribute to our collaborative culture, with an ambition to assist in the development of junior team members  

Your Team 

TLTs Trust and Estate Planning team are graded in Tier 1 in Legal 500 for the South-West and Band 2 in Chambers High Net Worth for Bristol and Surrounds. 

The Trust and Estate Planning team form part of our wider Private Wealth team, within our Employment, Pensions and Tax, and Private Wealth Group. The Private Wealth team comprises the Family and Trusts and Estate Planning teams.  

The group has a strong international client base and they offer a full-service Private Client practice for a combination of wealthy individuals, major UK banks and trust companies.
