We are seeking to recruit an Associate and Senior Associate for our Competition team, which forms an integral part of our broader Commercial Services Group. Depending on your previous experience and interests, you will also support with wider regulatory or commercial matters as part of a varied multi-disciplinary practice.

This is a full time, permanent role, ideally based in Bristol or London, offered on a hybrid working basis.

Your Role 

As an Associate or Senior Associate in our Competition team, you can expect to be involved in:

  • advising clients on a wide range of antitrust matters, from merger control work to (market and targeted) investigations as well as behavioural advice, compliance training and associated support;
  • undertaking National Security and Investment Act analyses and notifications;
  • advising on subsidy control and associated policy; 
  • providing insightful commercial/regulatory advice in a practice tailored to your existing experience and with opportunities to further develop;
  • seeking new work opportunities and reinforcing existing client relationships through targeted marketing, business development and client care initiatives; 
  • knowledge-sharing and working as part of a cross-office collegiate team, including assisting with the supervision of more junior lawyers.

As a Senior Associate, you can expect to lead (under supervision) on projects and tasks and have the opportuning to lead and manage others in the team, whether directly or on a matrix basis.

Your Skills and Experience 

  • A Qualified Solicitor (SRA or Law Society Registered) (or equivalent) with circa 2-5 PQE.  
  • Good level of experience across two or more areas of the antitrust spectrum covering; merger control, competition investigations, compliance programs, behavioural advice, National Security and Investment Act analyses and notifications, compliance programmes and training. Ideally the successful candidate will also have some experience in competition litigation and subsidy control.
  • Broader commercial and/or regulatory experience (including for example consumer protection investigations), or a willingness to multi-skill, would be valuable, as would experience of working for clients in the retail & consumer goods, financial services, digital, future energy, leisure, real estate and government space. 
  • A forward thinker, with excellent analytical, communication and organisational skills, you will be self-motivated with the ability to manage workloads and deadlines. 
  • Commercially aware with some exposure to (and a strong commitment to) developing our business, with the ability to maintain and nurture strong client relationships. 
  • Skilled in developing a deep understanding of clients’ business needs and markets.  
  • Committed to contributing to a friendly, open and collegiate culture, with an ambition to assist in the development of junior team members
