Associate / Senior Associate - Contentious Regulatory and Investigations

We are currently recruiting for our Financial Services Disputes and Investigations team in Manchester, at either Associate or Senior Associate level, focussing on contentious regulatory and investigations work.  This is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic, fast growing and supportive team working with innovative banking and finance clients on a whole range of contentious regulatory matters and projects.

Your Role

You will work with notable lending clients and house-hold borrowers on a wide range of contentious regulatory and compliance matters including the following:

• Engagement with and defending enforcement action by regulators.
• Internal whistleblowing and conduct investigations. 
• The provision of independent legal advice to senior managers.
• Complex advisory, strategic and risk management work.  
• Remediation projects, s.166 skilled person reviews and past business reviews.
• Governance and policy framework reviews.

You core responsibilities will be:

• Working closely with our investigations’ leads to deliver against the investigation’s strategic plan.  
• Supporting the running of large-scale investigations and projects, including leading on core deliverables.
• Providing strategic and commercial legal advice upon a range of contentious regulatory issues under supervision of more senior members of the team.
• Delivering excellent client service informed by a knowledge of clients’ business and wider market intel.
• Responsibility for own financial management, meeting financial targets and billing.
• Participating in business development activities with clients and potential clients.
• Assisting with production of legal updates and the delivery of training to client’s legal teams and senior managers.
• Developing relationships with our clients and assisting in maintaining and developing key accounts.
• Working to develop a team of junior fee earners through delegation and coaching.

Your Skills and Experience

You will be/have:

• A Qualified Solicitor (SRA or Law Society Registered), NQ-5 PQE, with regulatory investigations experience.
• Ideally your experience will have been gained within the financial services sector, however we are also keen to see applications from those with experience of handling investigations in the field of corporate crime, environmental, health and safety, HMRC and competition.   
• A forward thinker, with excellent analytical, communication and organisational skills, you will be self-motivated with the ability to manage workloads and deadlines.
• Commercially aware with enthusiasm for business development, and an appetite for keeping up-to-date with the latest developments in your practice area and the financial services sector.
• An understanding of your client’s business needs, and act in the best interest of the firm and the client.
• An ambitious and enthusiastic team player, able to support senior fee earners and contribute to our collaborative culture.  Interested in all areas of our nationally recognised financial services disputes and investigations practice.

Your Team

TLT has one of the largest dedicated Financial Services Disputes practices in the UK, with partner led teams in all jurisdictions. We act for a range of financial institutions including large UK banks, international banks, challenger banks and fintechs, giving commercial and practical advice to resolve disputes.

We advise across the whole spectrum of contentious issues associated with commercial, business and consumer finance, including dispute resolution, pre-litigation management and Alternative Dispute Resolution.
