Further to recent strategic appointments in our Manchester office, we are looking to recruit an experienced contentious Construction lawyer, to join our growing Manchester Projects, Infrastructure and Construction (PIC) team.

The team in Manchester forms part of the national PIC team, which comprises seven partners across four offices supported by a number of fee earners at various levels. Nationally, the PIC group has expertise across a range of sectors including Energy, Real Estate and Public Sector and undertakes both contentious, non-contentious Construction and projects related work. PIC sits within the firm’s Commercial Services Group and acts for private and public sector clients across the UK and further afield. 

The head of the Manchester PIC team is an experienced partner who specialises in contentious Construction and Engineering matters. He is widely regarded as a leading Construction and Engineering lawyer with extensive experience in all forms of dispute avoidance/management and resolution including mediation, conciliation, adjudication, arbitration and litigation. He is independently recognised as a leading expert in the field of Construction by the Legal 500 and Chambers UK guides to the legal profession. Since the appointment of this partner there has been continued recruitment into the Manchester Construction and PIC team, including an experienced partner specialising in non-contentious Construction and projects work.

Your Role

The work of the Manchester PIC team relates predominantly to contentious and non-contentious Construction and Engineering matters and public sector projects. The team has particular experience and expertise across various sectors (e.g. energy (wind, solar, nuclear etc.), utilities, waste management, heavy engineering, real estate development and infrastructure) and has a broad client base, which includes real estate developers, energy and utilities companies, contractors, large sub-contractors and various significant public sector organisations.

As part of the contentious Construction offering in our Manchester office, you will contribute to the firm's knowledge and expertise in the Construction sector, and have the opportunity to:

  • Work for high calibre clients on complex contractual issues, and to ‘lead’ on such matters where appropriate;
  • Build relationships with new clients and existing clients of the firm;
  • Develop your skills, knowledge and construction law expertise;
  • Help to build a significant Manchester PIC team within which you will have key role and where you can develop your career;
  • Contribute to team strategic planning and business development activities; and
  • Play a real part in the further development of the Manchester PIC team, and assist the firm in achieving its long-term business aspirations.

Your Skills and Experience

To be considered for this role, you will have at least 7 years of post-qualified experience in Contentious Construction work. You will have experience and knowledge of complex Construction Law matters involving issues such as delay and disruption, defects, payment etc.

You will have prior experience in providing strategic advice to clients looking to avoid and/or manage disputes, and will have experience in ‘leading’ on matters. Experience of supervising and collaborating with more junior colleagues on large scale cases is also essential.

You will have/be:

  • A Qualified Solicitor (SRA or Law Society Registered), already operating at a Senior level
  • A proven track record in business development and maintaining strong client relationships
  • Experience of supervising and/or managing a small team
  • Able to demonstrate first class communication skills with the ability and confidence to engage with clients and colleagues at all levels
  • Able to confidently provide strategic advice to a variety of TLT clients
  • An active, senior member of the team at TLT, with the commitment to developing the firm’s offering locally and nationally

Your Team

Our Projects, Infrastructure & Construction team have extensive experience in development and transactional construction projects, as well as expertise in dispute management and resolution. We have a significant record of advising UK infrastructure projects, in particular in the clean energy and transport sectors including on high value complex disputes.

We work with corporate clients of all sizes - global manufacturers and retailers, major national and regional builders, and commercial land developers are regular clients.  We also work with registered housing associations and public bodies including local authorities, police forces and other governmental departments and agencies.
