We are currently recruiting for a 3-5 year PQE, England and Wales qualified solicitor for our Financial Services Disputes and Investigations team in Manchester, at either Associate or Senior Associate level. This is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic, fast growing, and supportive team working with well-known banking and finance clients on a whole range of lending assignments and projects.

The range and quality of the work we do is exceptional.  Our team advise on a variety of contentious matters – including high value and complex banking litigation, complex possession litigation, title rectification, professional negligence claims, regulatory, fraud, and receivership instructions.  We defend reputationally sensitive claims and undertake specialist projects with our clients to help to prevent claims against them in the future.

We have a strong and diverse client base which includes the UK's major clearing banks, building societies, private and wealth banks, digital banks, international banks, payment service providers and fixed charge receivers.

Your Role

As an Associate or Senior Associate, you will work with notable lending clients and house-hold lenders on work types such as the following:

  • Providing strategic advice on complex secured recoveries, including litigation, fixed charge receivership, negligence, and fraud claims
  • Advising on title rectification strategy to include claims in the High Court and the First Tier Property Tribunal
  • Advising on pre-action strategic remedial activity
  • Supporting Group Corporate Affairs and communications teams to manage media and reputational risk
  • Assist Partners and Legal Directors on complex matters, at the same time as progressing your own case load
  • Engage, negotiate, and mediate cases against other top tier litigation firms.

In the role of Associate/Senior Associate, you will undertake key responsibilities such as:

  • Running a significant and varied contentious caseload for key financial services clients, including banks and mortgage lenders.
  • Providing competent strategic and commercial legal advice upon a range of contentious disputes and claims under supervision of more senior members of the team.
  • Delivering excellent client service informed by a knowledge of clients’ business, key drivers and requirements.
  • Responsibility for own financial management, meeting financial targets and billing.
  • Participating in business development activities with clients and potential clients.
  • Assisting with production of legal updates and knowhow development.
  • Responsibility for own financial management, meeting financial targets and billing.
  • Develop relationships with our clients, so that you can assist in maintaining and developing key accounts.
  • Supervise a team of legal assistants and Associates, to delegate work to others and develop your leadership skills.

Your Skills and Experience

You will be/have:

  • A Qualified Solicitor (SRA or Law Society Registered), with 3-5 years of post-qualification experience.
  • Financial Litigation experience is essential.
  • A forward thinker, with excellent analytical, communication and organisational skills, you will be self-motivated with the ability to manage workloads and deadlines
  • Understand your client’s business needs, and act in the best interest of the firm and the client
  • Interested in all areas of our nationally recognised financial services disputes and investigations practice, which counts a wide variety of household financial services businesses as clients.
  • Commercially aware and enthusiastic for business development and appetite for keeping up-to-date with the latest developments in this ever-changing area of work.
  • Succinctly, clear and confident communication, drafting and negotiation skills.
  • A strong team ethos is essential as this team works across three locations in the UK, and collaboration is always at the core of what we do.

Your Team

TLT has one of the largest dedicated Financial Services Disputes practices in the UK, with partner led teams in all jurisdictions. We act for a range of financial institutions including large UK banks, international banks, challenger banks and fintechs, giving commercial and practical advice to resolve disputes.

We advise across the whole spectrum of contentious issues associated with commercial, business and consumer finance, including dispute resolution, pre-litigation management and Alternative Dispute Resolution.
