We are recruiting for a Senior Associate to join our market-leading Financial Services Disputes and Investigations (FSDI) team in Manchester. This role would best suit a qualified Solicitor 3-6 year’s PQE.

Our FSDI team is one of the UK's largest teams in the field of financial services contentious regulatory and litigation, comprising over 150 people across our offices in Bristol, Manchester, London, Belfast and Glasgow. We are rated by Chambers as being in the top tier of firms outside of London advising in this area.

Our team advise on a variety of contentious matters:  

  • in the investigations and contentious regulatory space, that includes internal and enforcement investigations, ILA, S.166 and thematic reviews, PBRs, remediation programmes and audits.  We advise on a variety of issues including governance, systems and controls, non-financial misconduct, culture, operational resilience, cyber security incidents, AML and ABC, mis-selling, financial promotions, the treatment of customers, accountability and regulatory reporting; and
  • in the litigation space that includes high value and complex banking litigation, defended mortgage litigation, professional negligence claims, defends claims brought by consumers and businesses, investment banking litigation, international disputes, regulatory, fraud, trade finance, and receivership instructions. We defend reputationally sensitive claims and undertake specialist projects with our clients to help to prevent claims against them in the future.

We have a strong and diverse client base which includes the UK's major clearing banks, building societies, private and wealth banks, digital banks, international banks, payment service providers and fixed charge receivers.

 

Your Role

As a key addition to the team you will:

  • Support a large cross-discipline group across the UK;
  • Work on a varied case load, providing strategic advice on complex and industry leading issues;
  • Primarily focus on FS investigations and contentious regulatory work but will also support broader litigation as necessary;
  • Support relationships with key financial services clients including clearing banks, private banks, building societies and/or niche lenders.
  • Assist Partners and Legal Directors on complex matters, at the same time as progressing your own case load.
  • Engage, negotiate and mediate cases against other top tier litigation firms.
  • Work with a team of legal assistants, which will enable you to delegate work to others and develop your supervision skills.

 

Your Skills & Experience

You will be/have:

  • A qualified Solicitor (SRA or Law Society Registered)
  • Experience in FS investigations/ contentious regulatory (essential) and FS litigation (desirable)
  • A forward thinker, with excellent analytical, communication and organisational skills, you will be self-motivated with the ability to manage workloads and deadlines
  • Commercially aware with enthusiasm for business development, and an appetite for keeping up-to-date with the latest developments in your practice area and sector focus
  • Understand your client’s business needs, and act in the best interest of the firm and the client
  • Ambitious and enthusiastic team player, able to support senior fee earners and contribute to our collaborative culture

 

Your Team

TLT has one of the largest dedicated Financial Services Disputes practices in the UK, with partner led teams in all jurisdictions. We act for a range of financial institutions including large UK banks, international banks, challenger banks and fintechs, giving commercial and practical advice to resolve disputes. 

We advise across the whole spectrum of contentious issues associated with commercial, business and consumer finance, including dispute resolution, pre-litigation management and Alternative Dispute Resolution.
