As a senior legal technologist, the successful candidate will take a leading role in the design, configuration and implementation of legal technology products for TLT. This is a client facing role, working directly with TLT clients to understand their needs and design technology led products and services that integrate with other FutureLaw services such as process optimisation and legal project management. You would also play a leading role in TLT’s internal implementation of legal technology as part of our ongoing change programme.

In this role you will:

  • Work with the rest of the FutureLaw team to inquire, experiment, deliver, promote and champion transformation and legal technology within the firm and with our clients;
  • Develop a deep expertise in the tech of the FutureLaw tech stack and related, complimentary and compatible technologies;
  • Lead on productising legal tech solutions and rolling out solutions both within the firm and with clients;
  • Manage the solution implementation lifecycle, from running initial conversations about new opportunities, to providing updates through the sales and build processes and engaging clients after delivery to ensure customer success;
  • Identify and develop ROI assessments and business cases based on a good understanding of commercial terms and requirements;
  • Lead on designing, configuring, pricing and rolling out FutureLaw legal technology, services and solutions (with support from the Legal Technology team and wider FutureLaw team as required), including solutions developed with our no / low code toolkit;
  • Evaluate the benefits of different types of legal technology and vendors to understand their capabilities and how they align to our needs and the needs of our clients.
  • Deep understanding of the legal tech market, including how different tools and technologies meet client requirements and how they can be used, particularly for multi-point solutions or with other point solutions;
  • Ensure technical quality control standards and technical checking processes are followed and using these to check the work products produced by junior legal technologists/legal technology analysts;
  • Provide in-depth advice and guidance to FutureLaw colleagues and throughout the firm on appropriate technology to help improve processes, identify and capture data and to improve the client experience;
  • Update stakeholders on progress during bigger projects;
  • Assist partners and other colleagues in bids for and delivery of work where legal technology is required for successful legal service delivery;
  • Manage the FutureLaw Legal Tech programme to include assisting with the introduction, design, implementation, support and embedding of new and existing legal technologies within FutureLaw, the wider firm and with clients and undertaking continual improvement and evaluation of the FutureLaw stack;
  • Line manage more junior members of the legal technology team focussed on tech implentation and configuration, supervise their work and encourage and support their development;
  • Upskill and empower the rest of the FutureLaw team and colleagues across the firm on legal technology, promote its benefits and encourage innovation and transformation;
  • Onboard new tools, including co-ordinating demos, design and implementation of trials, pilots, proofs of concept and final roll out;
  • Product management of existing legal technology products, and coordinating input on legal tech products from stakeholders including: clients (customer success management), legal teams (content production), software vendors (product roadmap), IT and InfoSec teams (technical requirements and security) and other business services teams, as needed;
  • Educate and raise awareness with internal and external clients on FutureLaw products and services and the value they deliver;
  • Train users and provide presentations and demos of FutureLaw legal technology products and be a super user and trainer for the FutureLaw Legal Tech stack;
  • Provide thought leadership and insights on legal technology, the legal market and technology trends and solutions and build relationships with clients, affiliates and members of the legal tech community;
  • Work closely with key stakeholders with a view to developing and cultivating relationships with internal and external clients;
  • Be engaged with and work directly with clients to include assessing and identifying their needs, running workshops and sandbox events and setting up and running outsourcing projects for clients based on legal tech (with support from the Transformation Legal Technologists and LPM team as required);
  • Work with clients to scope, map and design appropriate solutions for clients to include the integration and implementation of legal technology (with support from Transformation Legal Technologists and LPM team as required);
  • Be an advocate for TLT FutureLaw inside and outside the firm

  • Deep understanding of LegalTech and the digital technology market to include (but not limited to) latest developments in SaaS, digital security, data storage and transfer, data extraction tools, structured and unstructured data, eDiscovery, Contract Review and Contract Lifecycle Management, Legal AI, Robotic Process Automation, Document automation, eSignature etc.
  • In-depth knowledge of key legal technologies, including Legora, LegalSifter, Relativity, Contract Express, PowerPlatform and DocuSign with administrator knowledge of Kira, Orbital Witness, Josef and HighQ (or similar). 
  • Deep understanding of solution architecture and its application to the legal sector.
  • Adapts perspective. Can think about details at the microscopic level, but retains macroscopic vision to understand the bigger picture when prioritising work and making decisions.
  • Understanding and experience of developing new products.
  • Good knowledge of product lifecycle management.
  • Passionate role model for technology and its application to the legal sector and legal issues;
  • Have good experience in design thinking or similar innovation techniques and methodology;
  • Have a deep understanding of how to repurpose technology to solve pain points with a particular focus on what mainstream technology can do including within the Microsoft and Thomson Reuters technology stacks.
  • Specific experience in document extraction, process automation and document review within all of the FutureLaw tech stack, including AI-powered document review, document automation e-signature, collaboration platform and data extraction applications with the ability to provide support for and train others to use each element.
  • Project management skills and basic programme management skills including an understanding of how to interpret the client's business needs and translate them into business/operational requirements.
  • Extensive experience of design, development, and use of legal and commercial playbooks.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills and an ability to engage and work collaboratively with stakeholders throughout the business at all levels and across fee earning teams and business services, with the ability to be flexible in approach as required
  • Will be legally trained with practical legal experience of legal processes and challenges with particular focus experience in commercial law / corporate law / property law / in-house experience desired. 
  • Experience of supervision, coaching and managing others is desired
  • Ability to deliver and embed Legal and other Tech into a firm with particularly focus and knowledge of change management methodologies
  • Keen team player with the ability to self-start and engage with a varied cross section of fee earners across the business.
  • A client focused approach to the delivery of legal technology and project planning
  • Comfortable working in an environment of uncertainty and constant change.
  • Tenacious, driven individual who can be flexible as the needs of the role and/or audience change and is highly skilled at working collaboratively and with a keen attention to detail.
