Beyond is TLT’s Early Careers equality, diversity, and inclusion programme focussed at supporting individuals from an ethnic minority background. The initiative recognises the lack of diversity in the legal sector and aims to overcome barriers that may be in place to enter the industry.
At TLT, everyone is welcome. You can be open about who you are and what you stand for - we encourage everyone to be their whole self, to have a voice and to contribute. Inclusion is at the core of our strategy, and we’re committed to delivering sustainable and meaningful change. We’re trusted to deliver a workplace that is open and inclusive and where everyone is supported in their work, development, and wellbeing.
Pre-programme
During the application process, the Early Careers team will host two webinars:
Introduction to Beyond (during virtual open evening): this breakout session will provide you with the opportunity to meet the Early Careers team, gain and insight into the programme, and ask any questions. Interested candidates should register for the Virtual Open Evening on 27 November 2025.
Beyond recruitment process: this session will guide you through the recruitment process and provide you with some top tips regarding how to succeed in the application and assessment stages. Interested candidates should register through our career’s site.
The Beyond Programme – Bristol, Manchester, & Scotland
Successful Beyond candidates will commence their programme in Spring 2026. As part of the programme, candidates will:
What to expect during the TLT Vacation Scheme
Beyond candidates will automatically be offered a place on our Vacation Scheme. The Vacation Scheme is a paid work experience programme whereby you will work on live legal work under the supervision of a fee-earning member of staff. The Vacation Scheme is designed to provide you with an insight into the life of a Trainee Solicitor at TLT, working with our clients to provide a range of legal services. The Vacation Scheme takes place in June in our Bristol, Manchester, and Scotland offices.
No two days will be the same, however, your time with TLT will consist of: working on live cases; attending meetings; attending court/events with your team; reviewing documentation; attending social events; and just experiencing our culture first-hand.
Those who attend the Vacation Scheme will be considered for a Training Contract in 2028 with TLT. From time to time we may have earlier start dates available based on business need, the Early Careers team will discuss this opportunity with you at offer stage based on the information provided on your application.
Beyond minimum requirements:
*if candidates have successfully completed the SQE then the PGDL is not a requirement.
We are actively seeking applications from individuals from ethnic minority backgrounds. This programme is part of our commitment to eliminate barriers to entry into the legal profession for ethnically diverse aspiring lawyers.
Candidates who narrowly miss out on a place on the Beyond programme will be automatically considered for a Vacation Scheme with TLT.
The Vacation Scheme is a full time, two week, work experience programme and you must have the right to work in this role, and in the UK, during this time. Following the scheme, successful candidates may be considered for a place on our training contract programme so applicants should consider their options for obtaining and maintaining the right to work as a trainee solicitor, and in the UK, throughout the duration of any future training contract. Eligibility for sponsorship as a trainee solicitor under the Skilled Worker visa is subject to meeting specific criteria set by the UK Home Office, and this criteria differs to the Vacation Scheme eligibility.
